AELCS TO COMMENCE OSC ACCREDITATION IN APRIL
It’s official!
Effective April 1, 2010, the Alberta Association for the Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services (AELCS) will be the accreditation agency for out-of-school care (OSC) services in Alberta. Now accreditation of all regulated child care services for children 0 – 12 years of age will be delivered by the same agency.
What happens next?
We will all be working to ensure that the transition from one organization to another will be as seamless as possible. AELCS consultants will work with you from wherever you are in the process with the tools you have been using. AELCS staff will be contacting all programs currently registered in OSC accreditation by phone to discuss next steps in April.
Alberta’s OSC sector has always been a strong advocate for quality services for children of all ages. Those of us at AELCS are looking forward to working with you to maintain or achieve accreditation.

Welcome
The Alberta Association for the Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services is proud to offer the first province-wide accreditation program for early learning and care services in Canada.
Accreditation is a self-assessment process for early learning and care programs in Alberta. This process uses a tool, called a self-study guide, which measures the quality of the care provided against a set of standards and criteria. This self-assessment process involves parents, staff and owner/operators to recognize the level of quality in their program and to continuously improve and promote quality care.
The accreditation process supports child care programs in their efforts to improve the quality of their services and provides parents with information to enable them to choose quality care. By going through this rigorous accreditation process programs are committing to raising the standard of care children receive in Alberta.
